Art with Meaning
I believe art can be more than a pretty thing hanging in our homes; it can be a touching point for who we aspire to be in our heart of hearts. Every piece I create is inspired by something that inspires me to be my best, most authentic self. I hope that when you look at my art in your home it will serve as a daily visual reminder to celebrate beauty in the world, find the courage to be your authentic self, and find your daring dreamer. I also hope that when others in your home look at my art they will be reminded of these things for themselves, and that you will all create a community of support for each other for the things to which you aspire.
About Erin the Artist
I came to the art thing late in my life
I have always loved creating, along with considering how others see the world. My first inspiration to become an artist was my grandpa. That amazing man had the gift of being in the moment and not just seeing beauty, but feeling it and sharing it with others. He would frequently reach out to grab my arm or shoulder and say something like, "LOOK at that sunset! You are never gonna see THAT sunset again," and we would sit in silence and take in the beauty of that sunset through our pores.
But even after my grandpa helped me feel beauty in the everyday moments, I didn't pursue art as a career because I didn't think it was a REAL career, and I thought I would be a "starving artist." I still created art. In fact, that is what I spent my late nights in college doing...drawing gifts for friends. However, it wasn't until a bone died at the base of my thumb requiring two surgeries and ending my career in physical therapy that I took the leap.
I literally sat on a bench outside of my surgeons office, staring at an amazing mountain vista and was struck with a grandpa clarity moment. Just like I was never gonna see that sunset again, I was never gonna live this life again. Life is short. I want to live it doing what I LOVE. And I LOVE creating art. I love the meditative state of being in the zone, and I love the community that is so naturally born from relating to and talking about art and its connection to life. Speaking of….keep scrolling down.
Art as Community
art as tribe
Art naturally builds community because it evokes conversation about meaning which lends to discussion of struggle, and triumph in humanity. I so enjoy how quickly we get REAL about what it means to be journeying as humans. I appreciate the authenticity and vulnerability. When relating to art I love how we discuss perception, common experiences, as well as the differences, which help enhance and expand perception for us all.
My monthly newsletter is intended to grow the tribe and add more diverse perceptions. In it I talk about what inspires my pieces, and I love hearing from you as far as what it evokes in you. It is the stories about what art evokes in you and your life journey that make us a tribe. A tribe of daring, grateful, authentic dreamers...not in the Lala land way...but in the movers and shakers on this planet way. We are powerful...especially when we join together.
